Philanthropy

Since its inception in 2001, Iota Sigma Beta has stood firm in its commitment to Children, our chosen philanthropy. Each year, Iota Ladies organize numerous fundraising efforts for the purpose of raising money which is later awarded to a worthy charity. The recipients of our award are voted upon annually by our sisters based upon a number of pre-established criteria. Most importantly, the non-profit organizations must have a strong mission concerning children and an established track record of excellence.

Our most recent 2006 award recipient was The Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick, in which the ladies of Iota Sigma Beta proudly donated a much needed, brand new large capacity washing machine. The Ronald McDonald House of New Brunswick provides a "home away from home" for the families of seriously ill children undergoing medical treatment at area hospitals. The house offers a safe, comfortable, supportive haven for families during a time of uncertainty, stress and difficulty.

In addition to our annual awards program, you can find Iota Sigma Beta volunteering and participating in many local walks and marathons which include the Alliance for Lupus Research's Walk to Cure Lupus, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night Walk, the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Awareness Walk & Relay for Life, the March of Dimes, and the Rutgers University Dance Marathon. We don't stop there. Iota Ladies also enjoy lending a helping hand at the local Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen in New Brunswick.

On a more national level, Iota Ladies have donated money to two very well known non-profit organizations; Save the Children and Oprah's Angel Network.

Service is one of Iota Sigma Beta Sorority's cardinal principles. As such, we make it our priority to better the community we live in, to lend a helping hand to our neighbors in need, and to assist the children of this world who need others to give them the voice they have yet to develop, and the chance and opportunity to grow unhindered and live a long and fulfilling life.

We welcome you to join us in our commitment to serve.
